On Tuesday, Villa 5th Graders showed off their new skills in finance at the second annual Finance 101 Open House.
For the last six months, students have been following stocks they chose themselves. And, learning the ins and outs of finance and investing from private vs. public companies and supply/demand's effect on prices and interest rates to stock symbols and long vs. short term investing.
Of course, they also honed various math skills including multi-digit calculations, statistical tables, and converting decimals to percentages. Students created a portfolio of their work that they presented to guests at the Open House.
The evening included awards for the top-performing portfolios and Q&A time with members of the Villa Finance Committee.
