Sixth Graders Adopt our Newly-Planted Evergreen Trees

In continued restoration efforts during Fall Stewardship Day, students and parents helped plant about 20 new Washington native conifer trees including hemlocks, firs, pines, and cedars. This December, Villa sixth graders have adopted these babies. During science class, they used an online dichotomous key to specifically identify their chosen trees and researched key tree information. They then created informative laminated signs and made colorful, festive ornaments to decorate their trees during the holiday season.

In both science and humanities classes this winter and spring, the sixth graders will protect their adopted trees from invasive blackberries, morning glory, and English ivy. Their efforts will help maintain proper ecological succession and a healthy forest for future Villa families to enjoy.
