Tommy Vail, a Villa alum from the class of 2013, is a standout student [at Bishop Blanchet High School] who is a member of the National Honor Society and selected as a Washington Aerospace Scholar. Tommy is also a talented athlete, playing basketball and football his freshman year and currently playing varsity baseball and golf. Outside of BBHS, he plays Seattle Select lBU baseball.
A typical school day finds Tommy waking up around 6:45 a.m. He'll eat a small breakfast, gather his supplies and head out to meet his carpool of Blanchet students. They arrive at school around 7:45 a.m. and Tommy chats with friends before heading to first period. He walks us through his classes:
U.S. History-Mr. Hecko
"Many students dread waking up for school and going to their first period class. This is the exact opposite of how I feel. I wake up in the morning and am always excited to go to U.S. History with Mr. Hecko. He has a way of teaching that really makes me enjoy his class. He has a lot of enthusiasm and includes a lot of interesting information into his lessons."
AP Language and Composition-Ms. Schau
"Ms. Schau is one of the nicest, most intelligent teachers I have ever taken a class from. Her knowledge of writing, grammar, reading, literature, and just everyday life always amazes me. She wants every student to succeed. One of Schau's greatest attributes is her ability to give inspirational speeches. If you are feeling down or she sees that the whole class needs a morale boost, she never fails to give an inspiring speech."
AP Calculus-Ms. Riedeman
"This is by far my hardest class. Ms. Riedeman does a very good job directing students to learn in ways that will help them succeed. She always knows what students are asking and always has an answer. This makes it easy to learn and always welcoming to ask questions. Because of Ms. Riedeman's class, I know I will be prepared for success on the AP test in the spring."
Theology 11-Ms. Comfort
"Ms. Comfort brings a very enthusiastic and refreshing attitude to theology that always makes the class fun. Although this is a Catholic-faith-based class, it is welcoming to all different faiths. Ms. Comfort does a really good job of allowing students of other religions to explain the different parts of their faith and make connections between them."
3D Modeling-Ms. Strunk
"3D Modeling is one of my electives. I chose this class because of the constantly expanding career field in technology. Ms. Strunk knows the ins and outs of the computer program we use and is always willing to help with any obstacle a student may run into."
AP French 4-Ms. Newcomb
"Ms. Newcomb's class is always a pleasure to go to because of her enthusiasm and love for the French language and culture. The main thing Ms. Newcomb has taught me this year is that learning a foreign language isn't about the grade; it's about developing a connection and a love for the country."
AP Physics-Mr. Mason
"Mr. Mason is one of the funniest teachers I have ever had. The energy he brings to class always makes me eager to learn. One of the hardest things for me in this class is using the different equations and manipulating them to fit the different types of problems. Although this is hard, it's also very interesting and I enjoy going to this class every week."
