In the summer of 2006, Ann Austin left Villa Academy to pursue volunteer activities in a different corner of the world. She and her husband, Gary Teale, spent 14 months providing educational support to families living and working in Guatemala City. As poverty stricken as the city is, Ann and Gary soon realized that the conditions in rural areas are even worse. Uncomfortable with the decaying state of schools in the outlying areas, this pair decided to do their part to make a change.
