Parent Association

Visit any successful school and you will find that parents are actively and passionately involved in its daily life. This is certainly true at Villa Academy, where creative, hardworking parents are part of every aspect of school life.

Through the Villa Academy Parent Association, parents help in the classroom and on the field, backstage for theatre productions, and in the cafeteria serving lunch daily. Parents raise thousands of dollars through Parent Association fundraisers so that grants can be awarded to the faculty for enriched learning in the classroom.

Look closely at this multi-talented parent group and you will see that Villa Academy parents share some things in common—a strong belief that parent volunteerism is the strongest model for shaping good service habits among students and a deep commitment to give generously of their professional and personal skills to make Villa Academy a strong school community.

The Villa Academy Parent Association supports:

blue square  Students through volunteering and the financing of two scholarship funds that assist families with the cost of co-curricular activities and field trips.

blue square  Faculty & Staff through an ongoing staff appreciation program that recognizes and celebrates our outstanding professional staff and faculty. In addition, the Villa Parent Association annually awards thousands of dollars in faculty and staff grants to enrich and expand learning opportunities in the classroom.

blue square  Parents through sponsorship of the Parent Education program, which provides a variety of activities throughout the year, designed to bring parents together to learn and share on timely parenting topics. These activities include seminars, book groups, regional speakers, and a lending library of parenting resources.

These initiatives are largely supported through Parent Association fundraisers.

The Parent Association also plays an important role in creating a forum for parent-to-parent communication. Monthly Parent Association meetings provide a gathering time for parents to address fundraising and volunteer activities. Selected administrators are on hand to address questions and issues as they arise.

All parents and guardians are members of the Parent Association. Through this group, parents help enrich the school environment for all of our students. If you have questions about the Parent Association, please contact any of this year’s Parent Association Officers listed to the right.

It is a great opporunity for the VPA to reward an outstanding idea with funding. Previous year's gifts include the Teacher's Lounge remodel, the blue picnic tables on the front lawn and the patio light post currently being installed.

All ideas must be submitted by February 19th, 2010. Please submit your ideas to Alisa at alisa@artistrydesserts.com.

The Privilege of Volunteerism:
One Mom’s Reflection

By Linda Wold

Imagine me at our Gala Auction on the last night of February! Pardon the pun, but my heart took a leap. It was after all February 29. Within the happy hum of a Villa auction crowd, I was enjoying conversation at my table and was caught unaware. It had just been announced that I was the recipient of the “Heart of Villa Award” given annually to a Villa parent volunteer.Read more…
