2016 Auction Fund-a-Need

We're Wild About Treehouses

A Different Perspective on a New World of Learning

Our 2016 Fund-a-Need is helping bring to reality a dream started a few years ago: a Villa treehouse!

In 2014-15, landscape educators from the University of Washington gathered input about the Villa grounds and how we saw them as a learning resource from our faculty, students, and parents.

Did you know that a tree house was the number one student-requested feature? Why? Well, what child doesn’t want a treehouse? We honor that dream.

But, at Villa, we know that a treehouse also affords kids the chance to learn, observe, and see new perspectives.

Outdoor Learning is an important feature of education at Villa. And, our new outdoor classrooms in the Villa Treehouse will provide additional spaces for:

  • scientific investigation
  • quiet retreat
  • class meetings
  • art projects
  • nature observation
  • environmental work

So, why build a treehouse?

  • Education in the outdoors is everywhere in the news, The New York Times and NBC Nightly News, to name a few. The more perspectives we can give our students for outdoor learning, the better. A treehouse is part of that.
  • Villa’s campus is a unique gem with acres of woodlands. Access “up in the trees” for our kids is yet another step in what makes Villa so special—for them, and for new families considering Villa.
  • A treehouse captures children's imaginations and provides a new platform (literally!) for their growth.

At our Villa Derby Auction 2016, our community stepped up to the challenge and raised enough funds to make our students' dream of a treehouse come true! Thank you for your generous support and watch for updates on the treehouse construction.
