MIDDLE SCHOOL ENRICHMENT

Villa Vikings Athletics

As part of the Archdiocese of Seattle, Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) program, we compete in a variety of interscholastic sports. We also offer recreational sport opportunities.

Villa parents, faculty, and outside experts work together to focus on:

  • learning new physical skills
  • sportsmanship and teamwork
  • thrill of activity and competition

Grades K - 8   |   Season: September - October

Why play soccer?

  • it is easy to learn but has many opportunities to improve and excel
  • it combines individual activity with team strategy
  • it's as much about how you play as how much you score
  • it develops aerobic endurance, muscular ability, and strategic thinking

Divisions:

  • Grades 5 through 8
  • Grade 4 (Modified Soccer)
  • Grade 3 (Mini Soccer)
  • Grades K, 1 and 2 (Coed Micro Soccer)

Play follows current Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) rules, unless otherwise specified in the CYO manual.

Grades K - 8   |   Season: September - October

Why run cross country? 

  • it develops aerobic endurance, perseverance, and resiliency
  • it combines individual and team goals
  • everyone participates the entire meet

The standard race course for meets is 1.35 miles for the 6th and 7th graders, and 1.5 miles for the 8th graders.

Grades 4 - 8   |   Season: October - January

Why play basketball?

  • it builds aerobic endurance and upper/lower body strength
  • it encourages hand-eye coordination and strategic thinking

Play follows the current National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) rules except where specified otherwise by CYO.

Grades 5 - 8   |   Season: February - April

Why play volleyball?

  • improve overall fitness
  • build hand-eye coordination and strategic thinking
  • develop teamwork and communication skills

  • develop teamwork and communication skills

Why play Ultimate Frisbee?

  • build overall fitness and aerobic endurance
  • learn complex physical skills
  • strengthen teamwork, communication, and conflict-resolution skills

Ultimate is a self-officiated sport where players call their own fouls and reach their own resolution.

Recreational athletic opportunities throughout the school year include:

  • Soccer Clinics & Private Coaching
  • Golf
  • Tennis

Ski Bus

Each ski season, join the Middle School Ski & Snowboard bus for Friday evening chaperoned trips to the Summit at Snoqualmie. Includes six weeks of instruction, as well as free time for skiing or snowboarding.
