The Villa Knights Chess Team attended the Washington State Chess Championship recently and the players had a great time competing with students from all over the state. More than 1250 students, grades K-6, were in attendance! To qualify for state, players must win 3 games out of 5 in a single tournament.
Gabriel A. went undefeated and took home the First Place Trophy for the Washington State Bughouse Chess Tournament. For the uninitiated, "Bughouse" is a chess variant played with a partner on two boards with four players.
Team members Nolan Y., 2A; Alexander M., 4B; Nicholas Y., 4B; and Gabriel A., also won trophies for "regular" chess based on the number of games won.
