Villa Mom to Lead UW's Paul Allen School of Computer Science

We offer congratulations to Magda Balazinska, who was recently named as the new head of the prominent and rapidly-growing Paul Allen School of Computer Science at the University of Washington. A 13-year veteran data scientist at the UW, Magda assumes her new role in January. About STEM education, she says, "STEM fields are not only for everyone but they require everyone if we are to build a better world. Diversity of perspectives, backgrounds, strengths, and needs is paramount to creating solutions that work for all."

Magda and her husband Michel Goraczko, are parents of two Villa girls, and reflecting on the Villa Experience, she notes that, "A key to success is hard work and unreasonable optimism. Through its many projects, hands on learning, and extracurricular opportunities, Villa inspires children to do great things and it teaches them that they can accomplish anything if they put their hearts into it!"  You can read a GeekWire article highlighting the Paul Allen School and Magda's appointment.
